Trade of the Day: Intel Corporation (INTC) Stock Is a Great Falling Knife to Catch. INTC stock is on sale AGAIN. Reload for more free profits. By Nicolas Chahine, InvestorPlace Contributor. Just two weeks ago Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC ) fell on earnings and I shared a bullish trade that delivered profits from thin air. Today INTC is falling again so I want to rinse and repeat the process knowing I have profits in hand. On Wednesday, INTC stock fell on a downgrade &mdash this on a day where Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA ) and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD ) rallied hard. This usually would be a bad omen for Intel bulls, but on the positive side, the downgrade had a muted effect and besides, it&rsquos one person&rsquos opinion and doesn&rsquot change the facts. Click to Enlarge Fundamentally INTC is a long-term proven performer. Management rarely gives Wall Street reasons to punish it. It sells at a modest 15.6 times trailing price-to-earnings ratio, which is cheaper than its competitors. Furthermore, I don&rsquot expect a deluge of downgrades, as the analyst ratings distribution is in balance and spread across three levels.

So traders now need to get over the fear of catching the proverbial falling knife. It&rsquos not usual habit for me to grab trash stocks that are falling, but when I see a quality name dip, I don&rsquot mind taking the risk. I am a conservative trader so I won&rsquot buy Intel stock at face value and without any room for error. After all, markets are at all-time highs. So I will use options to structure a trade setup that will generate income from proven support levels. INTC Stock Trade Idea. The Bullish Bet: Sell the INTC Aug $32 put and collect 35 cents per contract. If price stays above my risk then I retain my maximum profits. Otherwise, I start losing money if INTC falls below $31.65 per share. Selling naked puts is not for the faint of heart, so I could use credit put spreads instead. The difference is that the spread&rsquos maximum risk is finite, thereby greatly reducing the maximum exposure in case of a crash. It is important to note that using options virtually eliminates the need to be perfect with the timing of entry. Since all I need is that INTC stock price stay above my sold risk, I can profit even if it falls another 10% from here. Technically I do have to acknowledge the risk of losing the next two trend lines (pictured in the chart above).

That would likely invite momentum sellers. Range has been tightening, so a move is imminent and it could very well be to the downside. Even then, there are other support levels that stand above my exposed risk. I am not required to keep my options trades open for the duration. Catching falling knives is hazardous, especially in a company like Chesapeake Energy. But CHK could give us easy profits.

By Nicolas Chahine, InvestorPlace Contributor. Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK ) reported earnings on Thursday, and Wall Street sold CHK stock down 3%. Chesapeake beat expectations for the most part, but traders found offsetting reasons to worry. Fundamentally, Chesapeake Energy is not on solid footing. It has internal issues with regards to production and high debt. The company also faces the ongoing hurdles in the energy arena. So to say that CHK stock is a sure bet for longs would be a stretch. It is noteworthy that most analysts already are realistic with regards to Chesapeake Energy Corporation&rsquos prospects. Most ratings have it as a hold. So the threat of downgrades is low. Technically, having just lost an important neckline, CHK stock is at risk of further downside even past $5 per share.

The trick is to find levels that are relatively safe and that won&rsquot be breached. The underlying assumption to this trade setup is that the company will survive. I don&rsquot need Chesapeake Energy to rally I just need it to not fall more than 30% this year. How to Trade CHK Stock Here. The Bet: Sell the Jan 2018 $4 put for 50 cents per contract to open. The 30% buffer from current price gives this trade a 70% theoretical chance of success. Usually I like bigger starting buffers for leaps, but in this case, I am banking on the aforementioned assumption holding true.

Selling naked puts is risky and therefore is not appropriate for all investors. I can modify the trade into a spread instead to limit the risk and thereby rendering it more conducive to conservative traders. The Alternate: Sell the Jan 2018 $4$3.50 credit put spread. This still is a bullish trade and I still need CHK stock to stay above the same strike sold. But here my risk is finite. I collect 15 cents per contract to open. If successful, the trade would yield 40% on money risked. Both trades have the same theoretical chances of success. Usually I like to balance my trade by selling opposing risk. In this case, I will refrain from doing so at this time.

I don&rsquot like selling call spreads after a sharp drop as I end up selling the trade at a discount. I can add the bearish side if Chesapeake Energy Corporation bounces.
